Layer Naming Best Practices
Overview
Using consistent layer names helps keep your drawings organized and makes it easier to locate layers in the AutoCAD Layer Manager.
Although AutoCAD allows many different naming conventions, certain layer names can cause layers to sort in unexpected locations within the layer list.

Why This Matters
A consistent layer naming convention provides several benefits:
- Layers sort more predictably.
- Related layers are easier to locate.
- Layer standards remain consistent across projects.
- Drawings are easier for other team members to understand and maintain.
Best Practice: Establish a layer naming standard for your projects and use it consistently. Well-organized layer names make drawings easier to manage, especially as projects become larger and more complex.
